Module 7: Get to Know Spreadsheets

Mastering digital marketing requires spreadsheet skills. In this course, we’ll take you through several lessons where you’ll practice using Google Sheets to analyze large datasets. The first of these lessons dives right into data analysis and assumes you have some basic knowledge of spreadsheets.

Before you get to that lesson, you should know how to:

  • Open and name a new Google Sheets spreadsheet
  • Change sharing and access settings
  • Add and rename new tabs
  • Select and edit cells
  • Copy and paste cells
  • Format cell contents using the top toolbar
  • Name and locate cells using their alphanumeric value (i.e. be able to identify a certain cell as “B5” or “J12”)
  • Sort rows and columns
  • Freeze rows or columns
  • Delete and add rows or columns
  • Adjust width or height of rows or columns
  • Add the values of two cells together using the SUM equation

Never used spreadsheets before? Don’t panic!

You have plenty of time to brush up on your Google Sheets skills before we get to the first spreadsheet lesson, which will occur at the end of Unit 10. Below we have compiled a list of tutorials to help you learn everything you need to know. Go through as many of these tutorials as you need to feel comfortable with the basics of the application.

If you don’t have spreadsheet experience, complete at least one of the tutorials below by the end of Unit 9. (Note: Google Sheets is very similar to Microsoft Excel. If you have experience performing the above actions in Excel, you have enough experience to dive into Google Sheets without a tutorial.)
